Location
Gurkovo lies at the foot of the Sredna Gora mountains, in the Valley of the Roses.
It is in the centre of the country, with Sofia to the west, Bourgas and the Black Sea to the east, Romania and the River Danube, north, and the borders of both Turkey and Greece to the south.
On a smaller scale the town lies at the crossroads between Kazanlak and Sliven, and Veliko Turnovo and Stara Zagora; all these towns being ideal for sightseeing and shopping.
There are some beautiful local walks into the mountains or down by the lake; whilst the house lends itself to a really relaxing time.

Gurkovo has a small number of shops, bars and cafes, as well as a family restaurant.

There are a variety of shops, supermarkets and food shops, and a variety of shops selling clothing and other goods.

There are many small bars to be found in Gurkovo, as well as a family restaurant with an English menu.
Post Office
This is located in the town square.
Medical Services
Medical insurance is recommended.
The medical centre is located in the town centre as is a dentist. There are also 2 very good chemists (Apteka) in the town who will assist with the majority of ailments; including dispensing antibiotics.
Bank
There is a bank in Gurkovo which will change both Euros and Sterling into Leva.
A passport is required.
There is also a cash point there using Maestro.
Garage
The garage is at the entrance to the town and is not self service.
Bus Station
This is located on the south side of town.

Tickets need to be purchased in the main building prior to boarding.
Railway Station
This is located a mile outside of town.
Very few trains stop at Gurkovo (8 per day, only 1 from Sofia). The main station is in Kazanlak for trains to and from Sofia or Bourgas.
